It’s easy to say everything is hunky dory in the east coast fisheries when you never visit the wharf

MUST WATCH It’s easy to say everything is hunky dory in the east coast fisheries when you never visit the wharf.

Fisheries officers had been refusing duties because of violence on the waters – but the Fisheries Minister INSISTED there was nothing of note. But the union representing the officers says members have been shot at, people tried to steal firearms and threats made to families and an independent investigation found that to be TRUE.

The labour investigation revealed exactly what we’ve been saying all along – heavily armed criminals, outlaw gangs, and violent, convicted offenders are threatening the lives of federal fisheries officers amidst rampant illegal poaching with ties to organized crime.

Intelligence found assault weapons are a real threat and officers have come under fire. Officers are not properly equipped to face these real dangers.

The report was obtained by The Canadian Press – but the government has not yet released it.

When asked about the dangerous situation on the water, the Fisheries Minister told the House of Commons there was nothing to see – business as usual. She even refused to cooperate with the Province of Nova Scotia – despite NUMEROUS calls and requests for help.

Maybe the Labour Minister should let Fisheries Minister #6 read the report.
